Our training programs.

Every program is calibrated according to the official syllabus governed by Sahyadri Shivamogga District Sports Karate Association (SSDSKA).

01
All age groups (Kids, Teens, Adults)

Foundations & Kihon

Stance stability, striking precision, and defensive fundamentals.

Kihon forms the bedrock of authentic karate. Students master grounded stances (Zenkutsu dachi, Kokutsu dachi, Kiba dachi), precise linear strikes (Seiken tsuki), and fundamental blocks (Age uke, Gedan barai, Soto uke). Emphasis is placed on breathing synchronization, posture alignment, and hip drive.

Key Training Objectives:
  • Develop rooted physical balance and neuromuscular coordination
  • Master proper fist formation, striking mechanics, and recoil (hikite)
  • Learn 5 core defensive blocks and stance transitions
  • Build martial focus and mental composure under physical exertion
Required Equipment:

Standard white karate dogi (uniform) with white belt; association chest patch upon registration.

Batch Schedule:

Incorporated into every morning and evening training session across all 3 branches.

02
All ages (Sub-Junior, Junior, Senior)

Kata Mastery & Forms

Traditional choreographed sequences of simulated combat.

Kata represents the living encyclopedia of karate. Each sequence teaches defense and counter-attack against multiple imaginary opponents in varying geometric directions (embusen). Students learn rhythm, tempo variation, expansion and contraction of muscles, and terminal focus (kime).

Key Training Objectives:
  • Memorize official association syllabus katas per belt grade
  • Refine embusen geometry, rotational turns, and low stance transitions
  • Understand bunkai (practical application of every movement in real life)
  • Develop calm zanshin (alert awareness) before, during, and after execution
Required Equipment:

Clean karate dogi with current verified rank belt.

Batch Schedule:

Dedicated kata calibration sessions held weekly across all branches.

03
Ages 8+ (Children, Teens, Adults)

Kumite & Sparring Drills

Controlled sparring, reflex timing, and spatial awareness.

Kumite tests technical precision against a live training partner under strict safety protocols. Training progresses from pre-arranged step sparring (Yakusoku kumite) to semi-free sparring (Jiyu ippon kumite) and controlled sports competition sparring. Absolute control and mutual safety are strictly enforced.

Key Training Objectives:
  • Learn distance management (maai) and timing of interception (sen-no-sen)
  • Practice fast combination strikes and dynamic high kicking (geri)
  • Develop agile evasive footwork (tai sabaki) and counter-strikes
  • Foster courage, composure under pressure, and gracious respect for partners
Required Equipment:

Mandatory protective gear: fist guards (mitts), mouthguard, shin/instep guards, and groin guard for male practitioners.

Batch Schedule:

Primarily conducted during evening sessions under direct Sensei supervision.

04
Teens and Adults (13+ years)

Physical Conditioning & Agility

Core strength, explosive power, cardiovascular stamina, and mobility.

Traditional martial body conditioning (Hojo Undo) combined with modern calisthenics. Focuses on rotational core strength, leg power for explosive stances and kicks, cardiovascular endurance for continuous sparring rounds, and joint mobility to prevent sports injuries.

Key Training Objectives:
  • Increase functional core stability and lower-body explosiveness
  • Improve hip flexibility and hamstring range of motion for kicking height
  • Build muscular stamina and respiratory endurance
  • Cultivate mental tenacity to push through physical fatigue
Required Equipment:

Karate dogi or comfortable training attire during fitness warmup.

Batch Schedule:

Built into the initial 20–25 minutes of each training period.

05
Kids (4–7 years) and Children (8–12 years)

Youth Martial Discipline & Focus

Character development, respectful etiquette, and anti-bullying awareness.

A structured, high-energy program tailored specifically to children. Combines foundational karate movements with fun agility drills that reinforce listening skills, school concentration, mutual courtesy, and self-confidence. Children learn that karate is never used for aggression, but to build confidence and defend oneself.

Key Training Objectives:
  • Instill the habit of respect toward parents, teachers, and peers
  • Improve posture, balance, bilateral coordination, and physical fitness
  • Develop attention span, patience, and task completion in class
  • Equip children with verbal self-defence and situational awareness
Required Equipment:

White youth karate dogi and white belt.

Practical Self-Defence & Tactical Awareness

Real-world awareness, release techniques, and decisive protection.

Practical adaptations of traditional karate techniques designed for modern real-world situations. Focuses on de-escalation, boundary management, escaping wrist and body grabs, blocking unexpected strikes, and utilizing simple, high-percentage counter-attacks to create safe exit opportunities.

Key Training Objectives:
  • Identify potential situational hazards before confrontation escalates
  • Master instinctive release maneuvers from common holds and wrist grabs
  • Practice vulnerable-target strikes (open palm, elbow, low front kick)
  • Build self-assurance, calm decision-making, and personal safety awareness
Required Equipment:

Karate dogi or casual training attire.

03Dojo traditions

Dojo etiquette (Reigi).

Traditional martial arts cultivates courtesy, self-restraint, and respect above all else.

The Bow (Rei)

Students bow upon entering and exiting the dojo floor, and before and after practicing with instructors or sparring partners as a mark of mutual respect.

Punctuality & Focus

Arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled session to prepare physically and mentally. Silence mobile devices and focus attention entirely on the practice.

Cleanliness & Safety

Keep your dogi clean and pressed. Finger and toe nails must be trimmed short to ensure training safety. Jewelry and watches are removed before practice.

Humility & Care

Karate skill is never used for bullying, intimidation, or aggressive display. Advanced students guide juniors with patience and care.
